Concert in the Park

Every year, on Grandparents Day, the Symphony-In-The Glen, a 40-piece professional orchestra under the direction of Music Director and Founder, Arthur B. Rubinstein, performs their annual Grandparents Day concert. The concert is performed in Griffith Park near Los Angeles.

Featured each year is a stellar performance of "The Grandparents Song" (a.k.a. "Let's Sing a Song to Grandma/Grandpa"), with a children's chorus singing the lyrics. The melody is based on one of Mozart's most famous arias "La ci darem la mano" from Don Giovanni, with lyrics especially written for Grandparents by Emmy award winning film and television composer Arthur Rubinstein.

The song was a highlight of the

Concert, and was well received by proud
families.

Rehearsals for the Grandparents Day Song are held six weeks in advance. If you wish to participate in the next Grandparents Day Chorus, contact the Symphony-in-the Glen by clicking on link

A crowd of over three thousand attends the Grandparents Day Concert. Maestro Rubinstein's
Symphony in the Glen outdoor concerts consistently
draw thousands of appreciative spectators. Price of admission: Donation of a can of food for the less fortunate.
Prior to the concert, grown-ups watch while Maestro
Rubinstein gives the children lessons in conducting
a symphony. Certificates are awarded for completing
the lessons.

Background: In the summer of 1994, families enjoyed the first of the Symphony-in-the-Glen concerts in the park.  The concerts are free so that they may be available to everyone in Los Angeles, regardless of cultural background or economic status.   "One of The Symphony-in-the-Glen's most important goals" says Founder and Music Director Arthur B. Rubinstein, "is to bring great classical music to new listeners.  Many of the people attending are experiencing classical music for the first time. And when I'm conducting and catch a glimpse of all the generations of people engrossed in the music, I feel we are accomplishing our goal."
